Virtual Tour of MSU's Small Fruit Entomology Lab

We are housed in the Center for Integrated Plant Systems, with a great view of the Horticulture demonstation gardens. From our lab's windows, we can look down on the flower test plantings and over towards the Plant Biology labs, seen here in the background.

We have a laboratory equipped with two fume hoods for work with insecticides and bench space for experiments.

We share some equipment with Dr. Miller's lab just down the hallway. This includes a gas chromatograph coupled to a mass spectrometer for analysis of insect pheromones and plant-derived chemicals. We also have an electrophysiology rig that enables recordings from insect antennae.

Undergraduate students work on a number of research projects for the lab. In the photographs below, Carolyn Klunzinger sorts through soil samples and identifies Japanese beetle grubs collected from Michigan farms. In the picture on the right, Elly Maxwell collects larvae of the grape berry moth from grapes used in our colony of this important grape pest.
